A change in defense and effort made a world of difference for the Sehome boys' basketball team as it rallied from a halftime deficit to win 50-42 on Friday, Dec. 10, at home over Bellingham in non-conference action.
Sehome coach A.J. LaBree said the Mariners' zone defense wasn't working well in the first half so they switched to man but still needed to improve their intensity.
"(Bellingham) had a lot of momentum going into halftime," LaBree said in a phone interview of the Red Raiders' 31-23 lead at the break. "What really turned the corner for us (after halftime) was how hard we worked, diving for balls, really hustling."
Colin Peterson had 17 points for Sehome and John Albert had eight points and nine rebounds.
Bellingham's Alex Check and Sam Sam Clitheroe had 10 points each and Myles Ayers had six points and 19 rebounds.
Sehome (3-0) is at Squalicum and Bellingham (2-2) is at Lynden Christian on Tuesday, Dec. 14. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.
