Sports Desk - THE BELLINGHAM HERALD
The Sehome boys' basketball team used a big second half to pull away and defeat Meridian 55-38 on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Meridian for its fifth straight Northwest Conference victory.

Sehome started the second half with a two-point lead, but extended it to 38-27 going into the fourth.
The Mariners remain unbeaten in conference play at 5-0 and improved to 9-4 overall. They are one of three unbeaten teams in conference play, including Anacortes (5-0) and Lynden (5-0).

Meridian held Sehome to five points in the second quarter to pull to within one point before halftime, but was outscored 33-18 in the second half.

"They give you constant pressure and you have to be able to deal with that," Meridian coach Shane Stacy said in a phone interview. "If they are going to press you for 32 minutes you have to deal with it for 32 minutes."

Although Meridian outrebounded Sehome 42-24, the Trojans committed too many turnovers to keep up. Stacy said Sehome scored 22 points on Meridian's 22 turnovers.

Noah Cyr-Moore led Sehome with 14 points (12 on 3-pointers), while Konstantin Andrushenko and Gabe Sanchez each scored 10.

Meridian was paced by Chase Heslep's 10 points. Edward Garcia missed the game with a concussion.
Sehome hosts Bellingham next, while Meridian travels to Sedro-Woolley. Both games start at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12.
