PREP BOYS' BASKETBALL: Mariners stumble against Anacortes

PREP BOYS' BASKETBALL: Mariners stumble against Anacortes
Sports Desk - THE BELLINGHAM HERALD

Sehome started slow and couldn't recover, falling 65-42 to Anacortes in a Northwest Conference boys' basketball game on Tuesday, Jan. 18.

Both teams entered the contest 5-1 in league, but the Seahawks, who were led by Jackson Kirkpatrick's 24 points, jumped out to a 20-10 lead after the first quarter, and a 39-17 advantage by half.
The Mariners' first-quarter woes included a 1 for 10 performance from the free throw line.
"For whatever reason we were flat and not prepared to play tonight," Sehome coach A.J. LaBree said in a phone interview, "and it cost us big-time."

Sehome (11-3, 5-2 NWC) got a team-high 21 points from Colin Peterson, including three 3-pointers, and played Anacortes (10-4, 6-1 NWC) evenly in the second half. But that wasn't near enough against a sharp Seahawks squad.

"They were just a step quicker in everything they did out there," LaBree said.
Sehome will be hosting Blaine next at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 21.
